If you are looking for a romantic getaway or maybe just a hassle-free way to relax and unwind in Hong Kong, the Urban Retreat staycation at the prestigious Forbes five-star award-winning, Landmark Oriental could be exactly what you are looking for.
From the moment my private limo, courtesy of the hotel, arrived to pick me up, I could feel the stress already starting to release. As we drove to the hotel, I began leafing through the spa menu and hotel information provided in the car in eager anticipation of my stay.

Once I arrived, I truly felt as if I was transported out of Kennedy Town in a vacation state of mind. Welcoming me to my room was a perfectly chilled bottle of champagne, canapes and a view of the city landscape from a vantage point I’ve not seen before. I instantly felt like my weekend getaway had begun, and it was hard to believe that I was literally only 15 minutes from where I live.
I began my stay with an incredible lunch at Amber, an impressive two Michelin-starred restaurant, included in S. Pellegrino’s “World’s 50 Best Restaurants”, considered the ultimate accolade in culinary excellence. The service and food was simply impeccable. I felt as if someone whisked me away to a perfectly-orchestrated performance, featuring an ensemble of masterpiece dishes from talented chef, Richard Ekkebus. The dishes flowed seamlessly together complemented by flawless and attentive service. I thoroughly enjoyed each dish and if creations such as “Hokkaido Sea Urchin in a lobster Jell-o, topped with Caviar and accompanied with crispy seaweed waffles” doesn’t transport you to another world, then decadent desserts and extensive wine list certainly will.
After lunch I could not resist taking full advantage of the location of the Landmark Mandarin Oriental hotel. Adjacent to the hotel is Hong Kong’s most upmarket shopping area with Asia’s largest collection of international luxury brands.
When I awoke to day 2, I realized my staycation was not close to being finished. I began my day with a wonderful breakfast at Amber restaurant; then I made my way to The Oriental Spa, which is definitely an experience that no one will soon forget. The Oriental Spa has been awarded as Asia & Australasia’s Hotel Spa of the Year, bestowed with the World Spa & Wellness Awards for two consecutive years since its inauguration in 2012, and for good reason. The extensive spa features ample space for zen tranquility, providing the perfect environment to relax, rejuvenate, and achieve a harmonious equilibrium of body, mind and spirit. I started my spa journey by entering “the Sanctuary Suite”, a space that easily allowed my mind to escape, as though on its own private island. My “island” was a 65-square meter, ultra-deluxe private chamber (“the Sanctuary Suite”), equipped with an amethyst crystal steam shower, vitality tub, futon mattress for relaxing and flat screen TV. The extremely talented massage therapist erased any stress I had and left - my body feeling completely tranquil.
I finally ended my stay at the MO Bar for a lavish, contemporary afternoon tea experience. Whether you want to put on your Valentino shoes or slip into something more casual, this place is the perfect ending to any staycation.
My lemongrass and ginger tea was accompanied by savoury bites, mini pastries, scones and a sweet temptation cupcake buffet featuring coconut, pistachio, and caramel sorbet that will make you think you have died and gone to heaven. What makes MO Bar’s afternoon tea even more popular are the collaborations with some of the world’s most prestigious brands, whereby the creative minds from the kitchen of MO Bar create these delicious dishes inspired by fashion collections or fragrances of luxury brands such as Marc Jacobs, and Jimmy Choo.
After being completely spoiled in my own city, I made my way to the hotel entrance where the Landmark Mandarin limo was waiting to transport me home. There were no passport checks, busy airport lines, or security checkpoints on this journey. I was home in less than a half hour, wondering why I’d never done this before.
