Get rid of wrinkles with these anti-ageing facials

The right facial can make a real difference to your skin – particularly when it comes to diminishing the signs of ageing. Medical clinic Dr Lauren Bramley & Partners offers a range of different medical aesthetic treatments, ensuring they can offer facials to target specific issues for clients.

Medical aesthetician Gillian Elsworth trained in the United Kingdom and has more than 25 years’ experience in the beauty industry. Her experience has seen her teaching at many international beauty and cosmetology schools as well as being recruited to set up a cosmetology centre in a major United Arab Emirates hospital.

She says she is often asked if people really need facials. Her answer is yes. “Skin requires taking care of with deep cleansing, exfoliation, hydration and protection from environmental aggressors such as pollution and UV rays, oil, dirt, grime and stale make-up. We also have specific specialised treatments to target skin issues such as pigmentation and fine lines.”

“All our facials are tailored to clients’ individual needs, with the use of the appropriate serums, creams and masks,” Gillian says. Here are five options:

#1 Fotona SP Dynamis Aesthetic Laser

Considered the “Rolls Royce of laser treatments”, this can be used to great effect for skin resurfacing and rejuvenation, diminishing veins and vascular lesions, pigmented lesions, acne and permanent hair reduction. According to Gillian, this treatment doesn’t use needles, but instead targets areas such as the naso-labial fold through application from inside the cheek, stimulating the collagen in the deeper layers. A consultation is required with one of the clinic’s general practitioners before undergoing it. There is no downtime after the treatment.

#2 Ultherapy

This ultrasound technology treats the skin’s deep foundation and is great for lifting and tightening the face and neck. The treatment targets the neck, chin and brow area, as well as producing results on lines and wrinkles on the chest. The treatment can also be personalised for other areas, such as the arms and stomach. There’s usually no downtime, though the skin may appear a bit flushed for a few hours after treatment. Gillian explains that this treatment isn’t about an instant result; rather, the collagen building continues long after the treatment, and it can take three to six months to see the full result, with the effects lasting a year.

#3 Omnilux

An Omnilux treatment uses light emitting diodes (LED) and is effective for skin rejuvenation. Red LED lights are used to stimulate collagen – particularly good for people with dry, dehydrated, mature and sun-damaged skin, says Gillian. A blue light treatment is useful for people with acne. It has a cooling, soothing, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin and is also good for people with sensitive skin or who have redness or rosacea.

#4 Microdermabrasion

A skincare “classic” treatment, this one has widespread popularity. While not specifically an anti-ageing treatment, it uses particle-free microdermabrasion to revitalise the skin. The treatment removes the build-up of dead cells, brightens the skin and tightens the pores – it can fade pigmentation too. The vacuum pump unblocks the pores and debris from the skin and gives a lymphatic drainage effect removing toxins as well. Gillian says all skin types can benefit from a microdermabrasion treatment.

#5 Clinical facials

According to Gillian, Dr Lauren Bramley and Partners offers customised facials for people with sensitive skin who aren’t suited to treatments, such as microdermabrasion. These can be individually tailored to a client’s specific needs.
