Roland Flexner and Ai Weiwei Exhibition
March 21 @ 10:30 am - May 14 @ 7:00 pm
This unique exhibition brings together the work of Roland Flexner and Ai Weiwei for the first time. The two artists first crossed paths in New York in the 1980s and developed an on-going friendship. In this exhibition, Roland Flexner’s iconic ink paintings will be shown together with a body of work by Ai Weiwei, being exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time. It includes a series of paintings tracing back to his days in New York.
Ai Weiwei resides and works in both Berlin and Beijing. His work includes diverse pieces such as a set of porcelain bones arranged in a vitrine, will be shown alongside a new Lego work created for the exhibition and other never-before-seen paintings, which date back to the 90s.
Roland Flexner was born in France and lives and works in New York. His two series of ink drawings presented in the exhibition are part of his iconic body of work. In these carefully crafted drawings, Flexner uses a series of unique techniques that avoided direct contact between him and the paper.
Massimo De Carlo Gallery focuses on creating a dialogue between globally acknowledged contemporary artists, young and promising talents and more classical masters from the 50s and the 60s. It opened its Hong Kong gallery in 2016. The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday.
